Tuoran – Leaf Pounding Tote Bag Making

Join Bonding Space for a hands-on Tuoran (拓染) Leaf Pounding Workshop, where we will explore the ancient Chinese folk art of plant-tapping and imprint the vibrant colors of nature onto fabric.

Tuoran is a traditional Chinese dyeing technique and a recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage with over 4,500 years of history. Dating back to early Neolithic plant-dyeing roots and flourishing during the Tang Dynasty, this sustainable craft uses a simple, rhythmic hammering process instead of chemical vats.

By pounding fresh leaves and flowers, you will transfer their natural pigments, veins, and shapes directly onto textiles. Historically used to record botanical life and decorate everyday fabrics, it is a beautiful, tactile way to connect with nature and preserve its fleeting beauty.

During this workshop, you will:
  • Learn the 4,500-year history, cultural background, and science behind traditional Chinese Tuoran and natural mordants.
  • Create your own unique tote bag to take home.
  • Spend a slow, therapeutic, and creative session with like minded people

Come unleash your creativity and leave with a beautiful, handmade piece of wearable nature 🌸 All fresh plants, tools, and fabrics will be provided.

⚠️ Note: If the weather is not great during the event, we might change the location. An email will be sent to all attendees, and further updates will be posted via email and Instagram. Please keep a close eye on your inbox and our feed!
